Walter was a son of Edward, a joiner, and Margaret. He had a brother & 2 sisters and they lived at Hafren Cottages, Frankwell Street. He was a shoe repairer, then served in Palestine and France & was the last Newtown man to be killed. He was buried in Ingoyghem Mill Cemetery , near Courtrai and is commemorated in St David's & Llanllwchaiarn Churches.
