Edward Noel Watkin

Regiment: Royal Field Artillery-Gunner
Battles: Western Front

Edward lived in New Church Street & taught at the Council School there. While fighting near Passchendale, he was in a shelter, which was struck by an 8" gas shell, which killed 3 of the 5 men inside. Noel was buried up to his neck, only able to move one arm. He told fellow Newtonian, Gunner Douglas Duncan what he would like him to do; he was released, taken to the billet then to hospital, where he recovered.
