Claude had shell shock in Suvla Bay, then dystentery and was sent home and discharged on 26/10/1916. A number of his letters from the Front appear in the Local History Book 'Letters from the Front from Newtown people' He was awarded the greatest French Distinguished Medal of Honour with Crossed Swords, 1914-15 Star, British War and Victory medals.
