Charles was the son of Edward, a draper and Margaret, of Short Bridge Street and had a sister. He fought in Egypt but died of pneumonia in Clipstone Hospital, Mansfield in July, 1918 and is buried in Newtown & commemorated at St. David's & Crescent Chapel. He was awarded the British War & Victory medals.
