John Henry Banfield

Birth: 1873 in Rochdale
Death: 10/2/1917

Killed: 10/2/1917 on the Somme

 

John was born in Rochdale in 1873 and adopted by Mrs Gilbert, Canal Road.  He worked as a newspaper boy and a miner. He married, had 4 children and lived in 3 Eagles Place.  He contacted pneumonia while in an ambulance in France and died there, and was buried in the Suzanne Military Cemetery, No 3 Somme. He was awarded the British War & Victory medals.
