Alfred Edward Astley

Birth: 1899
Death: 9/8/1915
Regiment: 15714- 6th Battalion, South Lancashire
Battles: Gallipoli
Killed: 9/8/1915 at Gallipoli

 

Alfred was born to Thomas, a leather dresser and Annie of 4 Ann Street. He had 4 brothers and 2 sisters and worked as a labourer in an ironworks factory, then as a collier in Treorchy, living in Cwmparc.  Alfred was 5'9", weighed 164lb and was of good physical development.  He died at Gallipoli on 9th August 1915 and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, St David's & Llanllwchaiarn Churches. He was awarded the 1914-18 Star, British War and Victory medals.
